Overview

Omega Technical Services is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Level III–IV) to to provide support to our client in the North Las Vegas, NV area.  The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support building, utility, equipment, and infrastructure projects through the development of Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs) and Project Requirements Specifications (PRSs).

 

This role is focused on front-end engineering, systems definition, and stakeholder coordination, supporting multi-disciplinary projects involving building systems, utilities, equipment, and fire protection interfaces. The selected engineer will work closely with Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) and stakeholders to define technical requirements, develop conceptual layouts, and finalize engineering requirements documentation in support of DOE-regulated facilities and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop FRDs and PRSs for building, utility, equipment, and infrastructure projects.

  • Break down project scope into functional and non-functional requirements, constraints, and performance criteria.

  • Collaborate with IPTs, engineering disciplines, and stakeholders to gather inputs and resolve technical requirements.

  • Research applicable DOE Orders, federal/state/local codes, standards, and prior project documentation.

  • Utilize existing templates and lessons learned from previous projects to support consistent documentation.

  • Develop conceptual visualizations, including layouts, site plans, and perspective views to support requirements definition.

  • Perform document reviews, comment resolution, and finalization of FRD/PRS packages.

  • Support coordination across mechanical, civil, electrical, fire protection, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Participate in project meetings and reviews, including occasional on-site engagements as required.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience supporting facilities, infrastructure, or industrial projects.

  • Demonstrated experience developing or contributing to engineering requirements documents (FRDs, PRSs, design criteria, or equivalent).

  • Working knowledge of Federal (including DOE Orders), State, and Local codes and standards applicable to mechanical engineering.

  • Experience with building systems and utilities, including some combination of HVAC, plumbing, process piping, industrial exhaust, or facility equipment systems.

  • Proven ability to work independently and coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.

  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nevada Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain through state reciprocity.

  • Prior experience supporting DOE, NNSA, national laboratory, or other highly regulated federal facilities.

  • Familiarity with fire protection system interfaces and coordination with fire protection engineering requirements.

  • Experience supporting front-end project definition, conceptual design, or early project planning phases.

  • Familiarity with MicroStation or similar CAD tools for conceptual layouts and visualizations.

  • Experience performing construction document reviews and supporting design review cycles.

  • Local or regional proximity to the project site.

Work Schedule

A 40 hour work week is scheduled. Client utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes Client holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
