Overview

Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Design Authority Engineer to support ongoing operations in Aiken, SC. This position plays a vital role in advancing critical mission objectives within a highly regulated and technically demanding environment.

Responsibilities

DUTIES:

  • Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
  • Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
  • Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.
  • Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
  • Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
  • Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.
  • Prepare reports for external publication.
  • Provide Electrical Design Authority engineering staff augmentation support to

    the Tritium Projects and Facilities for SRNS.

  • Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis; Operations, Maintenance, Project, Startup and construction support; walk downs; design reviews, development and generation of design input and output documents including but not limited to: System

    Design Descriptions, requirements documents, Single Line Drawings; Electrical

    Equipment Lists; Control System Design; Control Schematics and Connection

    Diagrams; Electrical Equipment Specifications; Bulk Material Specifications;

    Circuit/Raceway/Wiring/Connection Design; Grounding; Heat Tracing; Fire

    Detection; Short Circuit Calculations; Arc Flash Incident Energy Analysis; Load

    Flow Analysis; and Electrical System Sizing Calculations.

Education Requirements

  • An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience.
  • A MS degree and 12 years' experience.
  • A BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. 
  • Considered an internal expert in area of expertise.

  • Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations.

  • Can solve complex problems in field.

  • Have 15-20 years of design authority experience in the nuclear industry.

  • Have working knowledge of NEC, IES, NFPA, IEEE, ETAP, and OSHA requirements.

  • Have experience using software (preferably ETAP) to generate electrical system calculations.

  • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check. 
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance. 
  • Required to be able to walk down systems in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred. 
  • Previous DOE/NNSA work experience. 
  • Prefer having SRS Electrical Design Authority Engineering experience.

  • Prefer having experience designing Lithium-Ion Battery System as redundant

    power.

Work Schedule

A 40 hour work week is scheduled. Client utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes Client holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
