Overview

Omega Technical Services is seeking an experienced Nuclear Procedure Writer to support operations within a highly regulated Department of Energy (DOE) environment in Oak Ridge, TN. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical writing skills and a deep understanding of nuclear operations, conduct of operations, and regulatory compliance. This position plays a vital role in ensuring safe, consistent, and compliant execution of operational activities through the development and maintenance of high-quality procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Procedure Development: Develop, revise, and maintain operations, maintenance, and test procedures that accurately reflect current field practices, engineering designs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, subject matter experts (SMEs), operations personnel, and management to collect technical data and translate complex processes into clear, actionable instructions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all procedures adhere to applicable standards and requirements, including DOE Orders, NQA-1, and Conduct of Operations principles.
  • Technical Accuracy: Review and validate procedures for technical accuracy, usability, and conformance with approved templates and administrative requirements.
  • Human Performance Integration: Apply human factors and human performance principles to enhance clarity, usability, and safety of work instructions.
  • Document Control: Maintain document configuration and revision control in accordance with company and client procedures.
  • Audit & Readiness Support: Provide documentation support for audits, assessments, and readiness reviews, ensuring traceability and compliance documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate existing procedures and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience writing operations or maintenance procedures in a nuclear, DOE, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with nuclear facility operations, conduct of operations standards, and procedure management systems.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, English, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Excellent technical writing and editing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, vendor manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document control systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams while working independently on assigned deliverables.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” or “Q” security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous procedure writing experience on operations procedures in the DOE/NNSA sector is preferred.
  • An active DOE “L” or “Q” security clearance is preferred.
