Overview

Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly motivated Fellow Engineer to support ongoing operations in Aiken, SC. This position plays a vital role in advancing critical mission objectives in a highly regulated, technically demanding environment.

Responsibilities

DUTIES

  • Apply technical experience in the field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features, such as complex technical requirements, the application of new or specialized materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements, into problem-solving and program planning.
  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
  • Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
  • Keep informed about technical needs within the company and technical trends in the company's area of expertise.
  • Be aware of the work group's capabilities and its customers' needs. Identify technical programs that can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
  • Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans — including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements—to address major technical tasks identified by management.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor budget expenditures, and review the quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers, and oversight groups.
  • Prepare reports for external publication.

 

Work Hours:

 

A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules, including

5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9

hours/day, five days a week, AA, and four days a week, BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Design Authority Manager.

Qualifications

Education:

  • An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience.
  • A MS degree and 12 years' experience.
  • A BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience. (Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in an applicable engineering discipline (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil/structural, nuclear, chemical, computer science, computer-related, etc.)

Experience/Skills:

  • Considered an internal expert in the area of expertise.
  • Contributes to advancing knowledge in the field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations.
  • Can solve complex problems in the field.
  • The candidate shall have strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Candidate shall be skilled in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
  • Ability to develop/deliver technical classroom training is required.
  • Attend and qualify for Subject Matter Expert/Instructor Status on numerous training topics

Area Security Access:

 

Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An

active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected

candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
  • SRS experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with engineering manuals, procedures, standards, and engineering programs at SRS is preferred.
  • Experience in area relative to course of instruction and teaching experience is preferred.
